The shape of the area

Gulshan-e-Iqbal spreads across twenty blocks between University Road and Rashid Minhas Road, with NIPA Chowrangi and Hasan Square acting as the two hinges that most journeys swing around. NED University, Federal Urdu University and the Karachi Expo Centre all sit inside or on the edge of this catchment, so the roads carry a mix of student traffic, exhibition crowds and ordinary residential movement at different hours. A driver who already knows which of the two main roads is moving at a given hour will usually save you more time than any shortcut through the internal lanes, and that is the main practical argument for hiring a chauffeur-driven car here rather than driving yourself.

Short runs that stay inside the city

A large share of the bookings that start in these blocks end somewhere else in Karachi rather than outside it. The journeys we are asked for most often are:

• Jinnah International Airport, reached either down Sharea Faisal or through the Drigh Road side depending on the hour
• Clifton and DHA for offices, consulates, restaurants and specialist hospital appointments
• Saddar and the older commercial quarters, usually booked with waiting time built in for wholesale buying
• Korangi, Landhi and Port Qasim for factory visits and site inspections
• North Nazimabad, Federal B Area and Nazimabad for family visits across the city
• Expo Centre during exhibition weeks, when a car held on duty is far easier than repeated pick-ups

Journeys that leave Karachi

The Super Highway, now the M-9, begins close enough to these blocks that outstation duties tend to start early and clear the city before the morning build-up. Hyderabad is roughly 160 km up that road and normally takes between two and two and a half hours in a car. The National Highway route in the other direction opens up Thatta and Keenjhar Lake, both of which work comfortably as a single long day out with a driver who waits at each stop. Heading west along the N-25 gets you to Hub in well under an hour in clear conditions. For anything further north, such as Sukkur, Multan or Lahore, the M-9 and M-5 motorways carry most of the traffic, and those trips are quoted either as a one-way drop or as a return duty with the driver staying with you.

For a family of four going to the airport or spending a day between appointments, the Altis X is usually enough. Once luggage or a third row enters the picture, the BR-V or Voxy makes more sense. University departments, wedding parties and companies moving staff to Expo Centre normally end up on the Hiace or a Coaster, because two small cars in this traffic rarely stay together.

Timing a duty around local congestion

University Road and Rashid Minhas Road both tighten sharply in the morning and again in the late afternoon, and exhibition dates at Expo Centre can add to that on otherwise quiet days. If you have a flight or an interview, it is worth asking the driver to report thirty to forty minutes earlier than feels necessary. Late-evening and early-morning duties, by contrast, move quickly, which is why airport drops scheduled before dawn are some of the easiest bookings we take in this part of the city.
