Islamabad International Airport stands well outside the built-up capital, and the drive in takes around an hour in ordinary conditions, longer if you land while the roads are busy. Being met when you land

Give us the flight number and the scheduled landing time when you reserve. We follow the flight, so an early touchdown or a two-hour delay does not leave you outside the terminal wondering where the car has gone. If you would rather be picked up at the kerb than met inside, say so at the time of booking and it will be arranged that way.

For a departure we count backwards from your check-in time, not from take-off. Flights leaving in the small hours are routine at this airport and drivers are rostered for them as a matter of course, so a three o'clock collection from a hotel or a residential sector is nothing out of the ordinary. Carrying straight on from the terminal

A large share of passengers here do not stop in the capital at all. They land and continue north into the hills, west toward Peshawar, or south along the motorway. Those journeys are charged at the out-of-city daily rate, and a one-way drop can be quoted separately depending on where the vehicle finishes. Hill routes in winter need real ground clearance, which is where a Fortuner or a Prado justifies its cost over a sedan. Name the destination when you reserve rather than on the day, because both the vehicle and the driver's rest plan depend on it.

Why the car is booked rather than found on arrival

The temptation is to sort transport out at the kerb once you have your bags. It works until it does not: a late-night landing, a public holiday, an unfamiliar city and a tired family are a poor combination for negotiating a fare. Pre-booking fixes the price, the vehicle and the driver in advance, and the booking is held against your flight rather than against a clock that starts when you walk out. It also means the vehicle is sized for your party before anyone is standing in the car park discovering that the suitcases do not fit.

Once you are on the ground

Signal inside the terminal can be unreliable and the SIM counters take time, so save the driver's number before you travel; it reaches you, with his name and the vehicle details, ahead of the flight.
