The approach road climbs, and the final stretch is not the place to discover that your vehicle has low ground clearance. Book a proper high-clearance four-wheel drive for this, allow considerably more time than the map distance suggests, and check conditions before setting out, since the hill is cold at night and weather changes what is sensible. Manchar Lake and Sehwan Sharif

Manchar Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the country, lies within reach of Dadu, and the shrine town of Sehwan Sharif is on the same side of the river a little to the south. Both are day trips from a Dadu base, and both are easier with a vehicle waiting than with improvised local transport. If you are visiting during the urs at Sehwan, expect heavy crowds and road restrictions, and plan arrival and departure times around them rather than hoping to drive straight in.

Most Dadu bookings run across several days, with the driver and vehicle staying with the group throughout. That arrangement suits a touring itinerary where the plan changes as you go. A one-way drop is the alternative if you only need to get to Dadu and are continuing by other means or staying on; the vehicle returns to Karachi without you, and it is quoted differently from a return hire. Ask for both when you first make contact so you can compare properly.

Planning and booking ahead
